Kosher but deadly!

This would be funny if it wasn't so bad. This is the outside packaging of a jar of caustic soda. Underneath the self explanatory poison warning appears a hechsher from no less than two different halakhic authorities, that certify the contents as kosher, i.e. fit for consumption. Kosher but deadly!

I'm not asking why you need a hechsher on an inedible product - that's been asked and answered a thousand times. I'm just wondering what the symbolism is of a rubber stamp being placed on something inherently dangerous if not deadly, in the name of religious stricture.
