We really do need to find a way
to get through to irresponsible parents whose kids are left to
themselves on the streets.
Maybe
it's me, but I'm horrified when I see
a five year old struggling to haul his two year old sister over the
road in a push chair loaded with groceries, and not an adult in sight.
Now
I'm by no means advocating over-protective parenting - I think
giving our kids the opportunity to take risks and make their own
mistakes is one of the most important things we can do for them, but
come, let's be honest - are these parents leaving their child
unsupervised outside the shop for half an hour because:
they
want him to find out for himself whether he could get away with
vandalising the car parked outside (by the way, he probably can), or
they have no idea what else to do.
As with everything(except perhaps bungee jumping), a moment of thought
and planning would go a long way.
Anyway,
it may be that for some, the threat
of having their child sold into slavery isn't a sufficient deterrent.
For them then, maybe this would do the trick:
